Presidential Search Timeline

November 2024: Presidential Search Committee is named.

December 2025: The search committee meets for the first time in December when it is charged and begins its work. The next phase in the search involved gathering feedback from key stakeholder groups to inform the leadership profile, including listening sessions at each university location and virtual listening sessions in December. The leadership profile is finalized in December, and WittKeiffer begins recruiting candidates for the position.

January to April 2025: The committee spends this time aiding in the evaluation of candidates, helping cultivate the pool, and interviewing candidates to recommend to the Board of Governors as finalists.

May 2025: The Rutgers Board of Governors, with the advice and consent of the Rutgers Board of Trustees, approved William F. Tate IV as Rutgers’ new president at a joint meeting of the two boards on May 19, 2025.

July 2025: Dr. Tate will begin serving as the 22nd president of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, on July 1, 2025.
